With rolling hills, tranquil lakes and evergreen trees, New Ross is nestled in the heart of Nova Scotia. This relaxed rural community and its surrounding settlements have an approximate year round population of 1700. New Ross sits inland on Route # 12, half way between Kentville, by the Bay of Fundy and Chester Basin, on the South Shore.

Situated on some of the highest grounds west of Halifax, New Ross’s scenic beauty and hilltop views are hard to surpass, especially with the colours of the leaves in the fall season.

New Ross’s natural resources not only provide beauty, but are the main economic base as well. Being in such close proximity to Halifax, the Valley and the South Shore, the New Ross area, with its plentiful pristine lakes, is a popular cottage region. In fact, the population doubles in the summer months with part time residents.

Feel the welcome of rural hospitality with a visit to local artisans’ shops, from woodcarvings to ironworks. Enjoy down home cooking when you sit down to one of the many suppers put on throughout the year by various local volunteer groups. Step back in time with a visit to our own living museum of agriculture, the Ross Farm Museum. Experience hands-on how Captain William Ross would have lived his daily life after settling in this area in 1816.

With Lunenburg being the Christmas Tree Capital of the World, New Ross is known to locals as Christmas Tree Capital of Lunenburg County! The area becomes a bustle of activity at the first snow fall with local Christmas tree producers readying shipments to as far away as Europe and California. For the past sixteen years there is even an increasingly popular Annual New Ross Christmas Festival, where families and kids of all ages can join in events to experience a traditional country Christmas throughout the Festival weekend. Best of all visitors can pick out their very own ‘New Ross’ Christmas Tree to take home.
