New Ross family Resource Centre

The New Ross Family Resource Centre was established in March of 19997 and is located in the “Old School” behind the New Ross Consolidated School. The Resource Centre is designed to promote the health and well being of families residing in the New Ross area. The Centre has developed a wide range of community based services and programs.

The Centre provides space to the Municipality of Chester recreation & Parks Department for a Community Coordinator, who serves the Centre and the community by providing recreation programs and support for community organizations. The Centre also partners with the New Ross Soccer Association.

Programs:
  • Tale spinners – An early literacy program for caregivers and children from birth to 5 years.
  • Play Group – For children 1 month to 5 years. Includes crafts, songs, stories, games and a snack. Mondays and Thursdays – 9:30- 11:30.
  • Pre-School
  • The pre-school operates out of the Centre to deliver programs for children 3-5 years.
  • Family Gym Night in partnership with the New Ross Consolidated School. Wednesdays, 6-9 pm. Sport activities for children of various age groups.
  • Dance Classes in partnership with Dance conXion. Offered are kidance, ballet, jazz, tap and hip hop on Thursday afternoons and evenings.
  • A variety of summer programs are offered to children and youth. Eg. Swim, day camp, play group, crafts.
  • Co-ed Badminton in partnership with New Ross Consolidated School –Wednesdays 7:30-9 pm
  • Adult Volleyball also in partnership with New Ross Consolidated School – Fridays 7:30-9 pm
Services:
  • Blood Collection - Offered every second Wednesday from 9-10:30 am.
  • Smoking Cessation - Offered through addiction services.
  • Cancer Patient Navigator in partnership with South shore health. The Patient Navigator works with individuals and Families to help them navigate through the cancer experience.
  • Nurse Practitioner - Krista Knickle from South shore Health provides education and visits the Charing Cross Manor monthly to provide some services and information. Work is in place to provide a nurse practitioner to service New Ross on a regular basis, and who will work out of the Resource Centre.
  • Fitness Centre - The Resource Centre has state of the art equipment and the Fitness Centre is open 7 days a week with paid key access 24/7.
  • Parent Education Programs - For new and experienced parents to help increase communication and understanding of their growing children.
Regular Events
  • Each Fall the Centre hosts a Wellness Fair with information booths, lectures and flu clinic and pap clinic. Many local residents receive their flu shots at this time.
  • The Resource Centre takes part in the New Ross Christmas Festival offering children the opportunity to visit with Santa, make a Christmas craft and eat homemade icecream. The Pre-school also takes part in the New Ross Fair by running a fish pond as a fundraiser.
  • The Pre-school also sells pies every year to raise funds.
